Cancer research is a long-term endeavor. The path from an important scientific insight to a treatment that changes a patient’s life can take years of careful study, collaboration and clinical testing.

Helping move cancer research forward

The Alliance is part of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). Through collaboration with the NCTN and the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), Alliance investigators work across a broad network to develop and conduct clinical trials, advance cancer prevention and treatment, and find ways to reduce the burden of cancer and its treatment.

This work is supported by a combination of federal funding, institutional partnerships, and philanthropy, including the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation. Together, these resources help sustain the research needed to move promising ideas from the laboratory and clinic toward better options for people affected by cancer.

Established in 1993, the nonprofit, tax-exempt Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation provides additional philanthropic support for the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology’s clinical and laboratory research, helping investigators pursue innovative approaches to cancer prevention, treatment, and care.

Supporting research that can make a difference

Foundation support helps create opportunities for Alliance investigators to pursue innovative research and explore questions that can shape the future of cancer care. It can help advance research that:

Develops new and more effective approaches to treating cancer
Explores innovative surgical and other treatment strategies
Identifies genetic and molecular factors that can help guide treatment
Finds ways to prevent cancer or reduce the risk of recurrence
Improves the quality of life of people living with cancer
Addresses the needs of patients and caregivers throughout the cancer experience

Because the Alliance brings together researchers and cancer specialists from across the United States, discoveries made through this work have the potential to reach patients in academic medical centers, hospitals, and community cancer centers across North America and possibly around the world.

Investing in the people who advance cancer research

The Foundation also provides research funding opportunities for promising investigators and innovative research within the Alliance. These awards help support the next generation of cancer researchers and encourage new ideas that can strengthen the science behind clinical trials.

How you can help

Progress in cancer research depends on sustained investment—in ideas, in infrastructure and in the people who carry promising research forward. Philanthropic support helps provide the resources needed to pursue innovative research and address important questions that may not otherwise receive the same opportunity for development.

Gifts to the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation support research across a broad range of cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, neuro-oncology, and cancers of the breast, respiratory system, and gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems. Gifts may be designated according to donor wishes and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
