The Daniel J. Sargent, PhD, Memorial Fellowship in Innovative Clinical Trial Design and Methods fellowship supports promising early-career investigators pursuing advanced training in biostatistics, clinical trial methodology, or related quantitative sciences. By fostering the next generation of research leaders, the fellowship continues Dr. Sargent’s commitment to scientific innovation, collaboration, and mentorship. The fellowship reflects the Alliance’s belief that strong methodology and outstanding investigators are essential to advancing cancer clinical research.
Recognizing innovative trial design
The Daniel J. Sargent, PhD, Memorial Fellowship in Innovative Clinical Trial Design and Methods honors the legacy of Dr. Sargent, whose groundbreaking contributions to biostatistics and clinical trial methodology transformed the Alliance starting with his tenure as Group Statistician for Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) in 2010. In addition, he led multiple international data pooling and analysis consortia, publishing extensively in colorectal cancer treatment, optimal clinical trial design and endpoints, and prognostic and predictive biomarkers.
Who is eligible?
- Faculty or master’s-level statisticians working with a senior faculty mentor
- Affiliated with the Alliance Statistics and Data Management Center (SDMC) [link to SDMC page]
- Preference is given to junior faculty (typically within seven years of training or Associate Professor rank or below)
- Proposed research must align with the Alliance and SDMC research agenda and focus on innovative clinical trial design, methodology, data analysis, biomarkers, endpoints, or trial conduct.
